For about 5 years, Roxie tried to convince me to join DDP. Due to summer schedules and a lack of confidence, I would decline her offer. However, the summer of 2022 I decided to reach out and join the company! To have an opportunity like this has been without a doubt life-changing. Roxie has pushed me outside of my comfort zone and helped me realize that dance is so much more than jazz squares and pointed toes.

Dance is a universal language. I've been dancing my entire life in Ukraine, and after moving in 2021 I knew I didn't want to go to a studio again, but my love for movement never waned. I joined DDP in the summer of 2022, at a time when my world felt like it was falling apart. Roxie Clayton has shown me that we don't have to speak the same language, grow up in the same country, or have the same dance background to matter on stage. Stepping into the space feels like coming home to your family after a long day of work, and I am beyond grateful for this opportunity and the friends I've made along the way.

Unlike so many dance studios and companies, Doniphan Dance Project is truly a family. When I joined in 2019, I was a scared middle school girl, who didn't say a word the whole summer. Overtime, Roxie and other dancers brought me out of this shell and genuinely shaped me into the person I am today. DDP has given me a safe space for creative expression that has fostered my growth as an individual, giving me opportunities I would not have anywhere else.
